Brilliant m8 simple, u get straight to the point never mind the doubters, that was the best explained vid I’ve seen on beat matching. The walkin thing siCC
I beg to differ. If it were that easy you would be a DJ too. Everyone is a critic these days. I always handle critics tactfully though. So, if you disagree with my method then I challenge you to make your own tutorial video and show everyone how its suppose to be done. Post your video as a response to this one so that my viewers can compare.
There is no one way to do anything, but I am going to claim my method to be a valid one until proven otherwise. Practice and enjoy.
Hey guy thats no beat matching thats reading the display!!!!!
Great tutorial. Thanks… This is the best example yet.
I have no clue about djing but those simple “walking friends” thing just explained them so easily and stuff
The last thing is thanks for recommending Sara Main. The guy who I stick with though is Johnathan aka The DJ Tutor. His YouTube account name is ellaskins and he is by far the best and best known tutorial DJ in the world. He was the one who encouraged me to start making tutorial videos. After this video Ive been on a hiatus though. I dont want to stop making them but been a bit reluctant to because I would like to sell my old video cam and buy a new one before I continue.
Practice and enjoy!
Not sure I understand completely about the overall smoothness” of the mix:
The tracks BPM were relatively close by chance to begin with. 126 and 127 respectively. It was simple because I only needed to adjust one deck. I just chose randomly to bring deck 2s tempo down rather than speed deck 1 up. The thing that matters most while blending tracks is to have them in sync, thats what makes it smooth. After that when one track is playing you can subtly change the tempo back if youd like.
Ill answer your questions 1 by 1. About adjusting the pitch control to accommodate for the adjustment of using the jog wheel:
Firstly, I had to use the master tempo to start with to get the BPM the same. Even after that, although the numbers are the same it may still possibly be out of sync a bit. Before I can know that as a fact though I first have to use the jog wheel to align the beats, and then give it a bit of a listen to see if they stay that way. They did so I didnt have to readjust.
Yo dude! Thank-you for this video!
I don’t mean to be picky but….
When you’re adjusting the song on the left deck by moving the jog wheel forward, shouldn’t you also adjust the pitch control to accommodate for the adjustment? What I’m thinking of here is if you’re playing at show, and you have to continuously adjust tracks like that wouldn’t that affect the overall smoothness of the mix?
Keep up the good work! You should also watch Sara Main’s videos on beat matching!

Its a lot easier said than done friend. Trust me when I say it is true beat matching. The fact I am using CDJs doesnt change anything, you would follow the same instructions given if it were analog.
The reason why I chose to do this tutorial with a CDJ is because Pioneers CDJ series are industry standard and a majority of DJs use them now. By all means though you are more than welcome to post a video response to this to show another method using analog if youd like. Practice and enjoy.
That is not true beat matching when you are looking at the BPM displayed on the CDJ.
What is someone suppose to do when the mixer nor the CDJ’s display the BPM. Suppose to only use your ears.
